Linking your PC with a Tablet / Smartphone

Parent Previous Next

Test Chart 2016 includes a two way link with a variety of tablets and smartphones including the iPad, iPhone and most Android devices.

This link requires the PC and the tablet or phone to be on the same network.  We recommend that the PC is connected to the wireless router/hub using a network cable (although it could be connected via WiFi).  The tablet or phone needs to be connected via WiFi.

Installing iDisplay

Before using the tablet feature you must first install a program known as IDisplay on BOTH the PC and your tablet or phone.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently this software is not available for Windows 10 although the developers are promising this will be available soon.

The app for the iPad and iPhone is downloadable from the App store at a cost of around £7.  The app for Android devices can be downloaded from the Android/ Google  store. The PC program can be downloaded from http://www.getidisplay.com/

When you have installed the software on the tablet, the IDisplay icon will be displayed on the desktop.

Ensure that your tablet is connected via WiFi to the same network as the PC and then run IDisplay on the tablet / phone. Ensure that I Display is running on your PC (this will normally run automatically when you start Windows).

Depending on the version of Windows you are using, an icon will now appear in the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen as shown below.

The name of all devices running IDisplay on the network should be displayed.  Select the device that you wish to connect.  The screen will then flicker slightly and the desktop should now appear on the tablet/ phone screen as shown below.  The tablet / phone screen has now become part of your extended desktop and when you move the mouse cursor off the edge of your PC desktop (usually the left edge) it will now appear on your tablet/phone screen.

To configure Test Chart 2016 to work with your tablet / phone, select Setup from within the  program and then select the Windows Positioning tab.

The displays currently connected to your PC are represented by the blue rectangles at the top of this screen.  In this case, there are two monitors connected (1 and 2) and an iPad Mini (3).  If you have a single monitor attached to the PC, the tablet /phone will be labelled “2”. Details of how to configure the main Test Chart Window and Desktop window are given later on in this manual. For now, you must simply ensure that the correct monitor is selected for the Tablet window – in this case “3”.

The tablet can be used as an interactive remote control or for displaying a wide range of near vision tests.
